Long, thick eyelashes are considered a sign of health and beauty. However, not everyone is gifted with the luscious lashes featured in magazines and beauty campaign advertisements. In most cases, women use short-term solutions to combat thin or short eyelashes, including mascara, faux lashes or eyelash curlers. If these temporary treatments no longer cut it, there are a few home remedy options that may offer long-term results. Always consult your doctor about homeopathic treatments before applying them.

Step 1

Wash your face with your daily face wash and gently towel dry.

Step 2

Remove any eye makeup residue with eye makeup remover and a cotton ball. Doing so will help the castor oil-absorption process. Wait until your eyelids are completely dry before continuing.

Step 3

Dip a cotton swab into castor oil. Close your eyes and gently rub the swab over your eyelid near the lash line. Only use enough to coat the lash line, otherwise the oil may seep into your eyes.

Step 4

Allow the castor oil to absorb into your eyelid skin. Repeat every night and continue use, even after you begin to see results.

Step 5

Take vitamin supplements to promote general hair growth and proper nutrition. Vitamin E, C and B complex are beneficial to hair growth, including lashes, says Holistic Online.

Tips and Warnings

  • Wear several coats of mascara to emphasize the lashes you do have. Also consider wearing fake individual eyelashes while you're growing your natural ones. These aren't as bulky as a full strip of faux lashes and create a more natural-looking lash line.
