Overview

Few people can say they haven't been embarrassed in front of people to the point of blushing. Getting red in the face is a common occurrence for most people when they are embarrassed or shy. This commonly happens in front of groups of people when the spotlight is on that individual, but there are individuals who experience chronic blushing to the point that it inhibits their social and career goals. If you struggle with blushing and want to curb its effects, there are steps you can take.

Step 1

Breathe deeply. Regulating your airflow will help keep your internal system calm, resulting in less blushing.

Step 2

Take steps to relieve yourself of any stress or anxiety that is causing you to blush. Reducing stress will have a direct effect on your blushing if the two are connected.

Step 3

Get plenty of sleep. Sometimes people blush because they are tired. Their bodies are stressed from the lack of sleep and they tend to blush more.

Step 4

Consider hypnosis. Many people suffering from blushing undergo hypnosis and experience dramatic decreases in their blushing frequency. Visit a hypnotist specializing in blushing, sweating or other bodily irregularities and have her try to help you with your blushing.

Step 5

Ask your doctor about having an endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy. This is a minor medical procedure which snips off part of the sympathetic nerve, which causes excessive blushing and sweating. This procedure is usually done in an hour and will be fully healed from in a week or less, and it will drastically reduce your blushing.
