Sweating is a normal part of life. Exercise, stress and hot weather can cause you to perspire. Sweat glands are all over your body, including under your arms and feet, on your scalp and in the groin area. Bacteria in these areas break down the sweat, and it's this interaction between bacteria and sweat that can cause odor. Having some body odor is normal, and there are ways you can fight it and keep smelling fresh.

Step 1

Shower daily in warm or hot water. Use a washcloth and soap to thoroughly clean your entire body. Pay careful attention to areas that can get sweaty and develop odor, such as under your arms, your feet and groin.

Step 2

Shave the hair under your arms to minimize the growth of bacteria.

Step 3

Dry yourself completely after you shower. Make sure to thoroughly dry areas prone to sweat and odor, particularly between your toes and around your groin.

Step 4

Cut down on spicy foods. Some foods, like curry and garlic, can contribute to body odor.

Step 5

Apply deodorant or antiperspirant to your underarms and the soles of your feet. These products often contain aluminum chloride, which combats sweat and odor.

Step 6

Wear clothing and shoes made of natural materials. Natural fibers allow the sweat to evaporate more easily.

Step 7

Go barefoot as often as you can. This allows your feet to air out rather than being trapped in shoes where bacteria can grow.

Step 8

Make sure your clothing is clean. Change your socks at least once a day.
