Beauty products may help enhance your appearance and add a boost of confidence. But incorrect application can actually draw unwanted attention. Making the most of your beauty products requires applying them in a manner that emphasizes your attractive features and downplays imperfections. While some beauty products come with explicit instructions on application procedures, others may leave you guessing. Proper application techniques can enhance your appearance and help you avoid wasting your expensive beauty products.

Moisturizer

Apply your moisturizer to clean skin. Gently pat your skin until slightly dry. Applying your moisturizer to freshly washed skin can help hold in moisture, helping your skin feel supple and hydrated, advises MayoClinic.com. Using your clean fingertips, gently dot your moisturizer over your face and neck. Blend these dots into your skin, using a light touch to avoid pulling and stretching delicate skin. Keep your moisturizer away from your eye area, unless the label specifies it is safe to use near your eyes.

Lips

Keeping your lips looking their best requires more than just a splash of color from a tube of lipstick. Prepare your lips for a long-lasting coat of color by dabbing your foundation onto the skin near the edges of your lips. Trace over this with a lip pencil that matches your natural lip tone, rather than your lip-gloss or lipstick. Fill in the lined area with your lip color, using the lines as a guide.

Line Your Eyes

Use a felt-tipped eyeliner that closely matches the color of your lashes. Gently dot the skin along your lash line with the tip of your liner, rather than drawing a long line around your eyes. Dot the skin at the very base of your lashes to create the appearance of thicker lashes and add drama to your eye area.

Coat Your Lashes

Apply your mascara after you curl your lashes with a lash curler. Sweep the mascara wand along the underside of the middle section of your upper lashes, pulling the wand upwards and towards your eyebrows, advises "Fitness" magazine. Use the mascara wand to sweep the inner corners of your lashes towards your nose and pull your outer lashes in the direction of your temples. Applying your mascara in this manner may help your eyes look rested and awake.
