Thrush is another name for an oral yeast infection. When you have one, you might experience white patches on your tongue and mouth, as well as cracked, irritated tissue. Anyone can get thrush, but it mostly affects children, those with compromised immune systems and the elderly. There are several approaches to curing thrush with natural remedies.
Step 1
Create an rinse of equal parts water and apple cider vinegar. Thrush is a form of fungus that grows in warm, moist places. Vinegar has strong anti-fungal properties. According to the Home Remedy Reference Center, you should use this rinse every three hours.
Step 2
Create an herbal rinse. Several herbs, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, are regularly used to treat thrush. For example, pau d'arco bark can be brewed as tea and taken three to six times per day to treat thrush. Garlic is a popular yeast-controlling remedy. Eat one whole clove per day or rub a garlic clove over the infected area. Use tea tree oil as a mouthwash several times a day to treat thrush but never swallow it, as it's toxic.
Step 3
Evaluate your nutrient intake. Researchers at the University of Maryland Medical Center cite that people who don't get enough calcium, vitamin C and B vitamins in their diets are more prone to yeast infections. Increase these vitamins, either through supplements or through nutrient-rich foods.
Step 4
Take probiotics. Probiotics, like those often found in yogurt, are bacteria which naturally counter yeast. Take probiotics that contain lactobacillus acidophilus or bifidobacterium, as these are seen as the most effective at restoring balance between bacteria and yeast. They are also available in capsules.
Step 5
Eliminate certain foods. According to Earth Clinic, simple sugars and starches, like white bread, wheat and white sugar feed yeast and should be avoided.
