One of the newest trends in fitness equipment, elliptical machines are popular with a variety of exercisers due to the smooth movement and low-impact nature of the machines. Ellipticals eliminate the heel strike associated with running or walking, thereby reducing impact on your joints. Fitness giant NordicTrack offers eight different elliptical exercise machines.

Basic Features

NordicTrack ellipticals feature a quick-changing "magnetic resistance system that provides the smoothest resistance possible with no friction and virtually silent operation," according to NordicTrack.com. This ensures smooth motion going forward or in reverse. The machines have at least an 18-inch stride. Some allow you to select stride lengths between 13 and 22 inches, allowing users to target different muscle groups. NordicTrack ellipticals have either manually adjustable incline settings or a power ramp, an electronic incline ramp.

Interactive Technology

Some NordicTrack ellipticals are equipped with iFit Live, an interactive system allowing you to work out with fitness guru Jillian Michaels, race against friends via Facebook, access Google Maps for customized trails and set custom fitness goals. Some models also include iFit Fitness Journal, which logs your workout data for up to 10 years, contains 20 preloaded workouts and has an outlet for your iPod.

Purchasing

NordicTrack ellipticals are available from the NordicTrack website and in-store or online from Sears. Both retailers offer factory-standard warranties that differ in length and inclusion by model. NordicTrack ellipticals list at between $599 and $1,999 as of September 2010, depending on the model.
