Although the appearance of wrinkles is never a welcome sight, wrinkles are a normal part of the aging process. The skin around the eyes is especially susceptible to crow's feet and wrinkles, as the fragile, thin skin lacks the protective oils that keeps the skin supple and elastic, reports the "New York Times" Health Guide. Home remedies, including a combination of moisturizing creams and oils, exercise and massage, can keep the skin firm and hydrated, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Coconut Eye Cream
Step 1
Place 3 tbsp. coconut oil in a microwavable bowl. Add 2 tbsp. grated cocoa butter.
Step 2
Heat the ingredients in the microwave for a few seconds. The mixture should be just warm enough to melt but not hot. Alternatively, warm the ingredients by placing the bowl in a larger bowl filled with hot water.
Step 3
Pour the mixture into a small plastic or glass jar with a tightly-fitting lid. Apply the cream to the skin around your eyes every night. Avoid rubbing, which can stretch the fragile skin. Instead, use a gentle tapping motion to work the cream into the skin, recommends the "New York Times" Health Guide.
Eye-Firming Exercise
Step 1
Place the padded tips of your fingertips under your eyes. Press the skin up gently toward your eyes without scrunching your eyebrows
Step 2
Use the muscles of your lower eyelids to lift your fingers up toward your eyes. Hold the position for 1 full second, then release.
Step 3
Repeat the exercise 20 times. Perform twice daily.
Eye Massage
Step 1
Wash your hands with soap and water. Place a drop of rosehip essential oil on the tip of your fingertip.
Step 2
Massage the oil into the skin around your eyes, using a circular motion with gentle, even pressure. Repeat the circle 15 to 20 times. Massage will improve the circulation to the tissues and muscles around your eyes.
Step 3
Place another drop of rosehip oil on your finger. Massage your cheekbones with a gentle circular motion 15 to 20 times. Repeat the eye massage every day.
Tips and Warnings
- A green grape makes a quick and easy firming treatment for the skin around the eyes. Cut a grape in half, then place the grape, cut side down, on the wrinkled areas. Leave the grape in place for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
