All of the branches of the Armed Forces of the United States of America require a fitness test prior to joining. They are very difficult exercise routines designed to test strength and stamina. The United States Navy test is similar in nature to the other branches tests. To perform to the best of your ability it is suggested you do workout routines that mimic the test.

Pull-Ups

To mimic the U.S. Navy's fitness test you must be able to do pull-ups in the proper form. The proper form is with hands slightly wider than shoulders, with head slightly raised pull your body up until your chin is over the bar. Pull-ups work a large variety of muscle in the back, shoulders and arms including the lateral, deltoid, triceps muscles. You should build up to the fitness test by pyramiding numbers of pull-ups daily.

Push-Ups

The U.S. Navy also requires its recruits to do push-ups during the fitness test. The proper form for a push-up is with hands slightly wider than your shoulders tighten your lower back and quad muscles to form a straight line from your shoulders to your toes, raise your chin so that you are looking forward and push yourself off the ground. Pyramiding is a popular method in assuring that you are able to meet requirements.

Curl Ups

The curl up is also included in the testing for the U.S. Navy. Regarded as the easiest of all the components of the test, losing form is just as easy. Proper form requires you to lay flat on the floor with knees bent until the bottom of your foot is placed flat on the floor, arms are laid across chest, and while keeping your lower back flat on floor you raise your body until your arms touch your knees.

Running

The four-mile run is common during basic training for the Navy. To be prepared for the challenge you will need to run at least four times a week for two to four miles each time. Proper stretching, running form and breathing technique can assist you during this challenge.
