If you are planning to start a new diet regimen, the best way to start is with a full body detox. Detoxing cleanses your body inside and out, removing the impurities and toxins that can prohibit proper body functions. There are a variety of detox programs available, but these can be ineffective or dangerous. A natural detox is easy to perform and should not involve starving yourself or limiting your diet to a single food item. By following some basic rules you can detoxify your body in a healthy way and get yourself on track for safe and natural weight loss.

Step 1

Eliminate artificially stimulating foods and beverages like alcohol, caffeine, refined sugar and saturated fats. Also avoid any foods that are heavily processed or contain preservatives, artificial colors and flavors. These foods can be laden with man-made chemicals that only add to the toxins in your system.

Step 2

Consume foods that are high in natural fiber. You can eat as much fresh fruits and vegetables as you like. Avoid dried fruits as these usually contain high amounts of sugar. You can also eat brown rice and whole grain breads that are high in fiber.

Step 3

Eat at least two servings of lean protein a day. Servings should be the size of your palm. Protein increases the production of enzymes that help breakdown toxins and prepare them to be expelled from the body naturally.

Step 4

Drink plenty of water. Water is a highly effective way to flush out your system. Drink half your weight in ounces each day. For example, if you weigh 150 lbs you should be drinking at least 75 oz of water a day.

Step 5

Exercise at least one hour per day. Sweating helps your body expel toxins through your skin and exercising increases oxygen circulation. Include a stress relieving activity in your exercise like yoga. When overly stressed your body can actually create and store toxins slowing down the detox process.

Step 6

Take a vitamin C supplement which helps with the production of glutathione. Glutathione is a liver compound that repels toxins.

Tips and Warnings

  • Adding a multi-vitamin to your diet is a great way to make sure your body is getting all the vitamins and nutrients it needs to function properly.
  • Detoxing is not recommended for nursing mothers or children. If you are questions whether or not a detox is right for you consult your doctor.
