Your body is made primarily of water. As a result, replenishing fluids lost to sweat or normal body activity is critical to maintaining your health. In addition, some conditions, such as low blood sodium -- hyponatremia -- require that your track your fluid intake. MayoClinic.com states that you can replace the water you lose using several tracking methods. To track how much water your consume each day, use a method that works for your lifestyle.

Step 1

Track each glass you drink. On a piece of paper that you keep in your pocket, on a stick on your fridge or you carry in your wallet, use hashmarks to track how many glasses of water you drink each day.

Step 2

Fill a marked water container to the recommended level and drink from it throughout the day. The benefit of a container that lists the amount of fluid is that you can track specific intake if that's necessary for your diet. Look for these types of drinking containers at sporting goods stores. Use one that is clear so you can easily see how much water you have consumed.

Step 3

Use an application on your personal device. If you prefer to monitor digitally, you can download and app and track your water consumption daily on your PDAor iPhone.

Step 4

Use a memory aid, such as a small pebble, penny or marble. If you plan to drink eight glasses of water daily, put eight marbles, for example, in your purse and take one out for each glass of water that you drink. At the end of the day, see how many marbles are left and tally your water consumption.

Things You'll Need

  • Pen
  • Paper
  • 8 oz. glass
  • Marked drinking vessel
  • Pebble, marble or penny
