Actress and singer Cher once said, "Husbands are like fires--they go out when they're left unattended." You do not need a lot of time or money to put together a creative and thoughtful birthday for your husband. Simply put yourself into his shoes and consider the things that he might want to do, have or experience, and then make them happen.
Make a Gift Basket
Although gift baskets have progressed far beyond the wicker hampers filled with cheddar cheese and smoked sausages, forgo the store-bought gift basket and create one of your own. Consider your husband's interests and hobbies, and purchase items accordingly. If your husband enjoys baseball, fill the basket with tickets to his favorite team's next game, a baseball autographed by his favorite player, chocolates in the shape of baseballs or a jersey from his favorite team. A husband who is a wine connoisseur might enjoy a bottle of his favorite rare vintage wine, tickets to a local wine tasting, a wine label scrapbook, and an ornate or unusual wine key.
Create an Online Birthday Campaign
If a hectic work schedule leaves you little time for more than a quiet dinner at his favorite restaurant, create an online buzz beforehand to build up to the event. Each day during the week before his birthday, send him an email with a romantic love note, animated greeting card, links to websites that will remind him of places you have been together or a photo of the two of you. If you prefer to make him work for his dinner, send him a series of clues about your plans for the big day.
Grant His Wish
If you have ever heard your husband say something like, "I wish I just had one day to relax and do nothing," then grant him his wish. Rent several of his favorite movies, stock up on his favorite snacks, fluff up the pillows and let him have his day. Make the day even better by giving him a small bell while you become his beck-and-call girl for the day. If your husband has toyed with the idea of buying a fancy sports car or motorcycle, rent one for the day and have it waiting in the driveway when he wakes up. Whatever wish of his that he thought was out of reach, grant it for a day he will not forget.
Give Him Coupons
Get creative on your computer and print up a coupon booklet for your husband to use at his discretion. Include coupons for a dinner at his favorite restaurant, a day off from chores, his favorite meal, an extended back rub or breakfast in bed. Buy tickets to an upcoming movie, sports game or other event and include them in the book as well.
