Instead of a burning bush, Chinese Emperor Shen Nung saw the future of Chinese drink in a floating bush after a gusty wind sent camellia sinensis into the emperor's pot of boiling water. While a variety of teas have since been created from this plant, only one maintains its original character through small amounts of processing that include picking young buds and gently drying leaves. White tea's many health benefits are maximized for this reason. Try adding a splash of lemon to your cup of tea for an additional antioxidant boost of vitamin C.

Weight Loss

According to research conducted by Beiersdorf AG in Germany, white tea promotes weight loss by preventing the development of fatty tissue and stimulating the breakdown of triglycerides into free fatty acids. The results were surmounted after human fat cells were combined with a solution of white tea extract high in polyphenols by researchers for an extended incubation period. Beiersdorf AG believes white tea to be an effective weight loss factor due to these results and tea's lack of disruption in cell viability.

Anti-Aging

The antioxidants found in white tea guard against the enzymes responsible for elastin and collagen breakdown, according to Kingston University Professor, Declan Naughton. Naughton states that elastin and collagen play crucial roles in the strength and elasticity that help lungs, arteries, tissues and skin to function. This is done by the duo's ultimate job in preventing wrinkles and skin sagging by protecting the structural proteins of the skin. The anti-inflammatory properties found in white tea aid in the overall efficacy of collagen and elastin.

Disease Preventative

In an article published at MSN Health, Dr. Christine Dumas states that the polyphenol antioxidants found in white tea are three times higher than those of green tea. Antioxidants are the main defenders and protectors the body has against disease and cell damage caused by free radicals. For this reason, white tea has been found to be beneficial in the prevention of cancer due to its ability of disrupting many cancer causing factors. According to Dumas, the blocking of cholesterol oxidation and enzymes that contribute to artery blockages also raise the status of white tea to heart disease preventative.
