Kombucha is a fermented tea that many people drink for its reported medicinal effects. Many people believe it has health benefits and it has been widely used in other countries. Kombucha is often mistakenly referred to as a mushroom, according to MayoClinic.com; it is actually made of yeast and a colony of bacteria. The Food and Drug Administration warns that home-brewed versions of kombucha may present greater risk of contamination, and studies have not confirmed the benefits of the tea. However, many people do believe that the tea can improve your health.

Candida and Yeast Infections

Kombucha may help candida and yeast infections because it has probiotic effects, meaning that it helps to restore a healthy balance of bacteria in the digestive tract. The bacteria in our intestinal tract can become imbalanced as a result of stress, illness and taking prescription medications, including antibiotics. According to the website Kombucha Cultures, kombucha tea can restore the correct balance of micro-organisms in your body.

Digestion

Kombucha may relieve digestive discomforts. According to the Seeds of Health website, the lactic acid in kombucha may also relieve constipation and improve bowel health. Digestive health is also linked to some skin conditions, and kombucha is also reported to improve external skin.

Arthritis

Some people report improvements in their arthritis associated with regular consumption of kombucha tea. The British website Seeds of Health claims that the fermentation process produces glucuronic acid, which creates glucosamines. Glucosamines lubricate joints, which the site believes may explain why some arthritis suffers experience relief from drinking kombucha tea on a regular basis.
