Loss of appetite or poor appetite can be caused by a number of things. According to Healthline, causes of loss of appetite can include stress, depression, the cold and flu, irritable bowel syndrome, bacterial gastroenteritis, hypothyroidism and even worms. Some people have naturally low appetites and might need to eat more to gain weight.

Step 1

Try to identify the cause of the problem. If you just started taking prescription medication or are experiencing other physical or emotional symptoms, talk to your doctor. A few tests might help determine what the problem is or you might need to switch to a different prescription in order to address the loss of appetite.

Step 2

Try acupuncture. According to Natural News, an acupuncturist might help balance your body's energy and stimulate your appetite. Several visits might be needed to see improvement and not everybody responds well to it, so it's important that you know what to expect before paying for treatment.

Step 3

Exercise. Natural News recommends exercise as a way to increase appetite easily and naturally. If you're trying to eat more to gain weight, don't choose high-intensity activities like step aerobics or running and instead walk or swim. Any type of activity will increase activity when done regularly. Exercise for at least 30 minutes every day on most days of the week.

Step 4

Drink fruit juice, as recommended by Flex magazine. Fruit juices contain sugar, which affects your glucose, providing you with a quick burst of energy. As your blood sugar declines back to normal, however, you'll get cravings and hunger spikes. The same is true of other carbohydrates, although using pastries and sweets to increase appetite is not very nutritious.
