Egg whites pack a protein-rich punch for your hair, says Brian Thompson, principal trichologist and director of product development at Philip Kingsley Trichological Centre in New York and London, in "Ladies Home Journal." Though including egg whites in your diet can help boost your hair's shine and body, egg whites can also play a starring role in your next homemade protein hair mask. You can beat the leftover egg yolk with a tiny amount of water and apply it to red spots on your skin to reduce their appearance, if you like.
Step 1
Use a whisk or a mixer to beat egg whites until they are white and foamy, about two minutes.
Step 2
Fold in yogurt, one spoonful at a time, mixing gently until the ingredients are completely incorporated and form a thick, creamy paste.
Step 3
Add a few drops of essential oil to the mixture, if you like, stirring to combine.
Step 4
Drape a towel around your shoulders to protect your clothing.
Step 5
Use your fingers to scoop up the egg white-yogurt mixture and apply it to your hair. Massage your scalp, taking care to thoroughly coat all your hair with the mask. Let the mixture sit on your hair for 15 minutes.
Step 6
Rinse your hair completely with cool water, making sure to completely remove all the egg white-yogurt mixture.
Tips and Warnings
- To quickly separate an egg, crack the shell completely in half over a bowl. Pass yolk back and forth between the two halves of the shell, letting the egg white fall into the bowl below. Reserve the separated yolks for another use.
