Teenagers suffer disproportionately from acne, but adults get it too -- in fact, half of all adult women can expect to see a breakout sometime in their lives, according to the website Acne.org. At that point, you may well want a wrinkle reducer along with an effective acne medication. The skin care products manufacturer Murad offers a three-part system designed to treat both aging skin and acne.

Causes

Pimples appear in teenagers because their maturing oil glands temporarily produce too much oil, making their pores clog, according to the Cleveland Clinic. When adult women get acne, you usually can blame hormones -- pimples commonly pop up at the end of your menstrual cycle and during other times of hormonal upheaval, including pregnancy and menopause.

Features

Murad's Anti-Aging Acne Regimen includes three separate products designed to be used together to fight pimples and the visible signs of aging on your skin. The time-release acne cleanser actively fights acne while cleansing your skin, the acne and wrinkle reducer also fights acne but adds skin-tightening ingredients to reduce fine wrinkles, and the anti-aging moisturizer adds non-oily moisture to your skin while providing sun protection.

Function

Murad's anti-aging acne system uses salicylic acid in two of these three products, the acne cleanser and the acne wrinkle reducer, to fight acne breakouts. Salicylic acid combats acne by causing the outer layer of your skin to peel, taking with it some of the pore blockages that cause pimples, according to the website Drugs.com. Salicylic acid can cause skin irritation in people with sensitive skin, and users report skin redness and excessive sloughing of skin.

Results

Murad's acne and wrinkle reducer also contains retinol, an ingredient thought to fight fine lines and wrinkles from sun damage and aging skin. According to a 2007 study from the University of Michigan Health System, retinol in lotion form significantly reduces wrinkles and other signs of aging when compared with a placebo.

Considerations

Murad's Anti-Aging Acne Regimen costs about $120 for a three-month supply, according to Murad. Reviews on the site indicate it works for some people, but if you fail to have good luck with it, you may need to visit your dermatologist, who can offer more powerful prescription medications that will treat both your acne and your wrinkles.
