Crossed eyes are a condition that typically occurs in children, but can occur in people of all ages as well. The condition occurs as a result of the eyes not moving together, according to FamilyDoctor.org. This condition can be permanent or something that occurs occasionally as a result of triggers such as stress. Although they may not work for everyone, performing vision therapy exercises may help to correct the crossed eye vision.
Wear an Eye Patch
Although it's not the first thing that you think of when considering eye exercises, wearing an eye patch to cover your dominant eye will aid in exercising the eye that is causing the crossed vision, according to the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. You can either buy a patch from a drugstore or ask your doctor to provide you with one. Your doctor may instruct you to wear your eye patch anywhere from 4 to 12 hours each day. In a few weeks, your doctor will check your progress and make a determination on how much longer the eye patch will be necessary.
Pencil Push-ups
Pencil push-up exercises can help to correct crossed viewing, according to the MayoClinic.com. To perform this exercise, take a pencil and focus your eyes on a single letter that is located on the side. While keeping your focus on the selected letter, bring the pencil towards the bridge of your nose. Only bring the pencil close enough to where you can see the letter without it turning blurry. Hold the position for a few seconds and then move the pencil back to arm's length away. Perform this exercise 50 to 100 times each day. The exercise should take no more than 5 to 10 minutes per session.
Eye Rolling
By rolling your eyes in all directions, you help to coordinate the movements of your eyes, allowing them to move together in whatever direction you want them to go. To perform this exercise, sit in a relaxed position while looking straight ahead. Start rolling your eyes in a clockwise direction and then in a counterclockwise position. Blink your eyes quickly and then repeat the process. Perform the exercise multiple times every day.
