According to the Mayo Clinic, the human body is comprised of about 60 percent water. Water helps your organs function properly, delivers necessary nutrients to cells and promotes healthy tissue. Lack of water can lead to dehydration, which can cause fatigue, illness and even organ failure. The clinic recommends that adults consume between one and one-half to two liters each day, which is six to nine glasses. Measuring your water consumption will help ensure that you stay hydrated and healthy.
Step 1
Use an appropriately sized container. Self-improvement blog Powerful Living recommends filling a two-liter container with drinking water each morning. Keep the water in the refrigerator and refill your glass each time it is empty. Aim to finish the bottle before you go to bed.
Step 2
Wear bracelets. Fat Fighter TV suggests placing eight or nine bracelets on your right wrist every morning. Each time you drink one glass, move one bracelet to your left wrist. Alternatively, wrap eight or nine rubber bands around your drinking glass or water bottle and remove one each time you finish a serving. When the bands are gone, you have met your goal.
Step 3
Treat yourself. Keep six to nine pieces of candy, gum or nuts in a dish on your desk, in your purse or in your pocket. Every time you finish a serving of water, reward yourself with a treat.
Step 4
Log your water intake. A to Z Wellness recommends hanging a small piece of paper on the refrigerator or tucking one inside of your planner. Mark a line on the page for each serving of water you drink. Writing on your wall calendar or a sticky note work well, too.
Step 5
Set a reminder. Divide your desired water intake by the hours in which you want to drink them all. Set an alarm using your cell phone or use calendar software on your computer to schedule appointments for a water refill. Aim to finish your current glass or bottle before the notification alerts you.
