What Is a Q-ray?

A Q-ray is a metal C-shaped bracelet that is meant to be worn in specific areas of either the right or left wrist. The idea behind Q-rays is based on theories from Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM.

Theory

TCM states that the body contains bioenergy, or chi, that needs to be in balance. Bioenergy flows through various channels in the body called meridians. When the body is balanced, a person is said to be an optimal state of health. Any imbalances in bioenergy can lead to disease.

How it Works

The Q-ray bracelet is supposed to work by sending energy signals through the meridians in the body in order to maintain the balance of bioenergy. One end of the C-shape acts as a ground and the other side acts as a regulator. It is worn on the wrist because the underside of the left wrist is said to contain the meridian that controls the heart, while the underside of the right wrist contains the meridian that controls other areas of the body.

Cost

There are a number of different bracelet styles available, and cost varies depending on the style. As of September 2010, the original Q-ray costs around $60. Other bracelet styles range from about $90 to $200.

Considerations

The effectiveness of Q-ray bracelets has not been scientifically proven. In 2007, the Federal Trade Commission filed a suit that ordered refunds to anyone who purchased a bracelet during a specific time frame.
