Cutthroat trout are abundant in coastal rivers and streams of the southeast region of the state and Prince William Sound. Other productive areas that hold healthy populations of trout include Situk River, Mat-Su Valley, Deshka River, Willow Creek, Montana Creek, Talkeenta River, Little Susitna River and Yentna River. Charter guides offer fishing excursions throughout the state including in remote, hard-to-reach areas.
Charters
Choose from charter guides that specialize in trout fishing like the Alaska Trout Fitters in Cooper Landing and the Tower Rock Lodge on the lower Kenai River. Alaska Trout Fitters offers half day and full day trout fishing trips on the Upper Kenai River Canyon, Anchor River and Deep Creek. Full-day trips last for eight hours, and half-day trips last five to six hours.

Guide Requirements
To be a trout guide in the state, certain requirements need to be fulfilled. A guide must be in possession of a current fishing license and a valid United States Coast Guard operator's permit to use a motorized vessel. Other requirements include having a valid first aid card; guides must be a resident or a resident alien of U.S., Mexico or Canada.
Regulations
According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, every sport fish charter guide is responsible for becoming knowledgeable of the state and federal fishing rules and regulations applicable to trout fishing in the Alaska. Alaska fishing regulations is divided into five regions: Bristol Bay, South-central, Interior-AYK, Kodiak and Southeast.
The open season for rainbow trout fishing in Bristol Bay is from June 8 to October 31 and from November 1 to June 7. For lake trout, the fishing season is open all year.
