Campgrounds Near Paulding County, Georgia

Located northwest of Atlanta, Paulding County is a small, country area in the mountains. The county seat, Dallas, is a small city with a population of approximately 10,500. While there are not any campgrounds within Paulding County's boundaries, its surrounding area has numerous campgrounds for visitors to stay while they explore the area.

Campgrounds

Located approximately 15 miles from Dallas, Red Top Mountain State Park has 92 camping sites for tents, trailers and RVs. The pet-friendly park also has a pioneer campground and is open for camping year-round. Sweetwater Valley Park in Villa Rica lies approximately 10 miles south of Dallas. Sweetwater Valley Park has 36 shaded campsites for RVs and tents. Located on nearby Lake Allatoona approximately 10 miles from Dallas, Holiday Harbor Marina and Resort has 20 pet-friendly lakeside RV camping lots.

Amenities

At Sweetwater Valley Park, each campsite has electricity and picnic tables, with pull-through sites available for RVs. Sweetwater has a bathhouse, dump station, on-site laundry facilities, walking trails, playground, driving range, gem mining and outdoor kitchen facilities. Red Top Mountain State Park's campsites have water, electrical hookups, picnic tables, grills, fire rings, cable hookups and comfort stations with showers. Holiday Harbor Marina and Resort has a dump station, laundry facilities, playground, restaurant, boat and canoe rental, volleyball and fire pits available for campers.

Activities

Campers to Lake Allatoona's Holiday Harbor enjoy many water-based activities, such as swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing and wake boarding. The lake also has numerous hiking trails. Also on the shore of Lake Allatoona, Red Top Mountain State Park offers a seasonal swimming beach, tennis courts, GeoCaching, boating, waterskiing, fishing, and hiking and biking trails.

Trails

Red Top Mountain State Park has six trails for hiking. Shorter trails, such as the lakeside trail and the visitor center loop trail, offer easy to moderate walking routes. Homestead Trail, at five and a half miles, is the longest trail in the park. Iron Hill Bike Trail is accessible to hikers and cyclists and goes through a historic mining area. Allatoona Lake also has numerous U.S. Army Corps of Engineers trails, such as the two-mile Cooper's Furnace Trail and the nearly three-mile Vineyard Mountain Eagle Scout trail.

Allatoona Pass

The Allatoona Pass is a trail along an old railroad along the shore of Allatoona Lake. At the top of both ridges adjacent to the pass are Civil War entrenchments. The Allatoona Pass is the site of the Allatoona Battlefield. The battle fought on October 5, 1864 is rich in Civil War history. The battlefield still has two well-preserved earth forts, a plantation house and a railroad cut through solid rock.
