Although low-carb diets do permit some snacking in between meals, it can be difficult to find healthy convenience snack foods to grab and eat on the go that contain fewer carbohydrates. Contrary to what many believe, you can snack on a low carb diet; the trick is in finding convenient, low-carb diet-appropriate foods.

Yogurt

Diabetic Living Online recommends yogurt as a convenient snack food for low-carb dieters. Not only are most varieties low in carbohydrates but they are packed with calcium. A fruity yogurt variety can also satisfy a sugar craving, so replace your chocolate bar with a cup of yogurt for a sweet, healthy midnight snack.

Select from the different kinds of yogurt depending on the strictness of your low-carb diet and the flavor you seek. Nutritionist Anne Collins reports that yogurt can have anywhere from 9 to 30 grams of carbohydrate per serving, with the average being around 11 grams per serving. Read the back of your label to be certain the selection you have made is a low-carb diet-friendly choice.

Cheese

Cheese is another convenient snack for low-carb dieters. Cut some cheese into cubes and store it in a plastic bag, or throw a string cheese into your bag for an on-the-go snack. Peer Trainer reports that a cup of cheddar cheese has only 2 grams of carbohydrates per serving. Snack on the cheese throughout the day as a healthy alternative to potato chips or other snacks that may be loaded down with carbs.

Beef Jerky

Beef jerky can also be a low-carb diet-friendly snack. It is high in protein and low in carbohydrates. Nutrient Facts reports that the average slice of beef jerky has about 2 grams of carbohydrates, but make sure to read labels and be wary of high sodium content in some varieties.

Nuts

According to Nutrient Facts, almonds have zero grams of carbohydrates per serving. Cashews have a few more carbohydrates, about 4 grams per serving. Nuts are high in protein and low in carbohydrates and a part of a healthy, balanced diet for any person. Have a handful of nuts when you feel like snacking and stay true to your low-carb diet.
