How to Make Homemade Acne Medicine

Although acne can be unsightly and extremely embarrassing, in some cases the often-used cures can be worse than the problem itself. The skin can be sensitive to chemical irritants such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid (which is also used as a wart remover). Medicines such as accutane require a doctor's prescription and come with their own potentially hazardous side effects including sun sensitivity, dry skin and birth defects in children born to mothers taking the drug.Rid yourself of pimples in a safe, natural way, with a simple recipe that has proven to be quite effective against acne.

Step 1

Measure 1 cup of water into a saucepan. Add 1/2 cup of oatmeal, stirring well until it it is thoroughly mixed in.

Step 2

Cook the oatmeal until it begins to thicken and most of the water gets absorbed. This should take one or two minutes, maybe more.

Step 3

Let the oatmeal cool slightly. Stir in 2 tablespoons of honey, mixing well, then let it cool further until it is pleasantly warm to the touch.

Step 4

Smooth the oatmeal over your entire face. Take care to avoid your eyelids and eye area, however, as any foreign substance can be irritating to the eyes.

Step 5

Relax while the oatmeal soothes and exfoliates your skin while absorbing the excess oil. Allow the mask to sit for about 20 minutes.

Step 6

Rinse the oatmeal mask off your face with cool water. Gently pat dry (do not rub), and apply toner and moisturizer as usual.
