How to Install Transit Pro Panniers on My Bike

TransIt Pro panniers were sold by Performance Bike, a bicycling chain in the U.S. As of 2010, Performance Bike no longer sells TransIt Pro panniers but does sell a TransIt Pro handlebar bag and similar, slightly larger panniers called TransIt Epic. TransIt Pro panniers are a medium size, suitable for installing on the front or rear cargo rack.

Step 1

Determine which is the left side pannier and which is the right side pannier by orienting them so the curved part of the pannier bottom faces forward. This gives your heels clearance while you pedal.

Step 2

Slide the U-shaped hooks near the top of the right side pannier over the outer rails of your cargo rack. Center the hooks on the rack, or place them as far back on the rack as you can for extra foot clearance.

Step 3

Attach the hook at the bottom of the pannier to a secure part at the bottom of your rack's seat stays.

Step 4

Pull up firmly on the loose adjusting strap that runs diagonally along the back of the rack to increase the tension of the bottom hook.

Step 5

Fasten the female end of the buckle on the loose strap to the loose male buckle end attached to the pannier. This keeps the adjusting strap from getting caught in your spokes during your ride.

Step 6

Repeat Steps 2 through 5 for the left pannier.

Step 7

Do a short test ride with the panniers to make sure you have enough heel clearance and that the panniers are stable. If they are too close to your heels, loosen them by pulling up on the length adjuster on the adjusting strap, slide them farther back on the rack and tighten the adjusting strap.

Tips and Warnings

  • In addition to testing the heel clearance, test the security of the pannier grip by trying to pull the pannier off the bike. If it moves too much, pull the diagonal strap tighter.
