Side Effects of Curam

Curam is the brand name in Australia and other countries of a combination medication used to fight infections. It is sold under other brand names in the United States. The medicine contains both the beta-lactamase inhibitor, potassium clavulanate, and the antibiotic, amoxicillin. It works to fight and kill bacteria that infect the person's body. MyDr.com.au states the person's physician may prescribe Curam for several types of bacteriological infections. Like all medicines, Curam may produce side effects, although serious side effects are rare.

Gastric Maladies

The use of the combination of amoxicillin and potassium clavulanate in Curam can cause some gastric disturbances, primarily when the patient begins using it. For example, the person may feel nauseous or sick to his stomach when he first takes Curam, MyDr.com.au reports. He may vomit because of the medications effects in his body. He may experience a sensation of indigestion. He also may get a bout of diarrhea. None of these side effects classify as serious, but MyDr.com.au suggests notifying the physician if they become severe or do not end as the person's body grows accustomed to the medicine.

Thrush

The woman who takes Curam may experience a condition known as vaginal thrush, MyDr.com.au states. This may cause her to produce a discharge from the vagina. It also may cause pain and itching in the vagina. This condition also is known as a yeast infection, Drugs.com reports. Anyone who takes Curam, male or female, may experience a condition called oral thrush. This can produce white spots or patches in the mouth, particularly on the tongue. These areas may feel painful. Either form of thrush classifies as non-serious and generally does not need a doctor's intercession.

Muscle Problems

Curam can produce some problems in the person's body muscles. It can cause pain in the muscles, or the muscles in various parts of the body may feel tender to the touch. The medication also can temporarily produce weakness in the muscles, MyDr.com.au states. Physicians expect these side effects to stop on their own.

Insomnia and Tiredness

Contrarily, Curam may produce a sensation of tiredness or fatigue, as well as prevent the person from sleeping normally. Either of these side effects, usually occurring in mild form, classifies as a non-serious side effect of the course of treatment with Curam. They both should stop as the person gets used to having the medication in her body.
