Vitamins to Help Eyelashes Grow

Your eyelashes grow and fall out just as the hair on your head does. You can get longer, fuller, thicker-looking lashes by ensuring that your body gets certain vitamins. This can also help the hair on your head grow faster.

Biotin

Biotin can help increase the rate of hair growth, according to MedlinePlus. Some women who experience female pattern baldness have a biotin deficiency, which can cause your hair to fall out. Biotin is required for the growth of all cells and tissues. This makes it very important for hair. Good sources of biotin include romaine lettuce, tomatoes and carrots. If you're concerned as to whether or not you're getting enough biotin, try a good multivitamin or biotin supplements. Always follow instructions as directed by your doctor or as directed on the label. Biotin toxicity is rare because it's a water-soluble vitamin, but it can happen.

Iron

Your body and hair require iron for a number of reasons. Those who develop an iron deficiency, also known as anemia, can experience hair loss because this is one of the symptoms. You can ensure you're consuming enough iron by eating plenty of meats and other sources of protein such as nuts, beans and legumes. If your diet doesn't offer good sources of iron, you may opt for an iron supplement. Certain medical conditions can make your body require more or less iron than the daily recommended allowance. Ask your doctor what's right for you. Too much iron can cause constipation and other unpleasant side effects.

Zinc

Zinc may help improve hair growth, and iit's often paired with biotin, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. The combination of both is used to help treat alopecia. Foods rich in zinc include meats, beans, peas and lentils. Without zinc, your hair and eyelashes could fall out--one of the symptoms of a zinc deficiency. Zinc is often found in multivitamins, or you can take individual zinc supplements. Zinc supplements may cause upset stomach, so ask your doctor for a recommendation as to how much you should take.
