Dry eyes may occur when tear ducts in the eye do not function correctly or the tears produced don't sufficiently moisturize the eye, according to MayoClinic.com. When tears do not provide adequate moisture in the eye, eyes burn, sting and can't become comfortable. Environmental factors may also contribute toward dry eyes, such as sitting in a room with dry air. Special contact lenses for those with dry eyes do exist, offering lenses with high water content to combat discomfort.

Proclear Compatibles

Proclear Compatibles, a contact lens manufactured by Cooper Vision, remains the only lens product available with approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to claim the lens may decrease discomfort or symptoms of dryness for those wearers who have problems with dry eyes, according to ACLens.com. These contact lenses offer increased moisture retention due to a technology that decreases dirt and deposits from adhering to the lens, while allowing more water content to remain on the lens. The Proclear Compatibles lens is meant for daily wear.

Acuvue Oasys

Acuvue Oasys contact lenses are specifically targeted at lens wearers with dry eye problems. According to Acuvue.com, these lenses contain HYDRACLEAR Plus technology, which makes the lens retain a high volume of moisture. This allows wearers with dry eyes to comfortably wear the contact lens for longer periods of time. Wearers of Acuvue Oasys contact lenses should replace them with a new pair every two weeks for maximum comfort for dry eyes.

Air Optix AQUA

The Air Optix AQUA contact lens, meant to be replaced with a new lens on a monthly basis, utilizes the AQUA Moisture System to lubricate the eyelid, which allows for maximum moisture retention in the eye, according to ACLens.com. This lens, manufactured by Ciba Vision, also offers a high level of oxygen transmission to the eye to enable the wearer to leave the lenses in the eye comfortably for a full day.
