Rosacea is a chronic condition that causes small bumps and redness to appear on the face. The redness can worsen over time and you can develop more frequent flare-ups of the condition. Lifestyle remedies and medical treatments are available to treat the disorder and remove the redness. In the meantime, you can hide the redness with concealers and foundations with yellow or green tints. Consult a doctor to discuss various treatments for rosacea.
Step 1
Drink a lot of water. Water can cool down the body and reduce redness caused by the disorder, suggests the International Rosacea Foundation. Drink a minimum of 10 glasses of water per day.
Step 2
Wear sunblock with SPF 15 or higher. Decrease redness by reducing sun damage with sunblock or using clothing to shield the face from the sun's rays.
Step 3
Stay away from substances that stimulate the body, such as caffeinated beverages, sugary treats and cigarettes, since they can worsen the symptoms of rosacea. Avoid very hot showers and baths and excessive alcohol use.
Step 4
Apply topical medications to the affected area of the skin. Topical medications recommended include antibiotics, tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide and azelaic acid, says MayoClinic.com. The medications can stop the redness and inflammation associated with rosacea. You typically use the medicine one to two times per day after cleansing the skin.
Step 5
Ask your doctor if you should be taking an oral medication to treat rosacea. Oral antibiotics and isotretinoin can be prescribed to relieve the inflammation caused by rosacea. Due to the possibility of serious side effects, isotretinoin is only given to patients with severe cases of the skin disorder.
