A missed period and morning sickness often come to mind at the mention of pregnancy symptoms, but your body may give you subtle hints shortly after conception, suggests MayoClinic.com. Early pregnancy signs are sometimes associated with other conditions. If you experience early symptoms of pregnancy, take a home pregnancy test or visit your doctor for confirmation.
Breast Changes
Hormonal changes affect the body in many ways. Some women experience changes in the breasts as an early sign of pregnancy. The breasts often feel sore or more sensitive than usual, causing you discomfort. They may also feel heavier, tingly or swollen. According to MayoClinic.com, these breast-related symptoms may appear around two weeks after conception.
Fatigue
The body goes through immediate changes in preparation for the pregnancy. One of those changes is an increased progesterone level. This specific hormonal change early in pregnancy may cause you to feel extremely tired, says BabyCenter. The extra work your body is doing to support the growing baby may add to the feelings of exhaustion.
Implantation Bleeding or Cramping
Implantation bleeding is a symptom that some women experience when the fertilized egg implants into the uterine wall. This typically occurs around 10 to 14 days after the egg is fertilized, or around the time you might expect your period. The implantation bleeding is lighter and shorter than a regular period. Cramping is another possible early symptom of pregnancy.
Basal Temperature
Your basal body temperature, taken as soon as you wake up each day, fluctuates at various times throughout your cycle. Tracking your basal body temperature alerts you to ovulation and possibly pregnancy. According to MayoClinic.com, your basal temperature increases after you ovulate. The temperature goes back down with your period. More than two weeks of a raised basal body temperature is a sign of pregnancy in the first month.
Other Symptoms
According to MayoClinic.com, you may start feeling nauseous early in the pregnancy. Food or smell sensitivities may also alert you to pregnancy. Other possible symptoms include feeling lightheaded, constipation, headaches and bloating.
