Diarrhea is typically a symptom of some other problem. It is usually not serious unless it is prolonged or blood can be seen in the stools. Diarrhea tends to remedy itself over time. Herbal cures should not be attempted without discussing them with your health care provider first. Herbal remedies may assist in firming up watery stools associated with diarrhea. Astringent herbs are considered the most effective herbs for this task. They tend to be bitter or sour.
Step 1
Place 1 teaspoon of astringent herbs into a tea bag. If using a strainer, measure the herbs and set aside. You may prefer a weaker tea due to the bitter or sour taste of the herbs. In this case, either reduce the amount of herbs or increase the amount of water per cup of tea.
Step 2
Fill a tea pot with water. Use 1 cup per teaspoon of herbs.
Step 3
Place the tea pot on the stove to boil. Once the whistling begins or the water is clearly boiling, remove the tea pot from heat. If substituting a saucepan for a tea pot, allow the water to reach a full boil before removing it from heat.
Step 4
Remove the water completely from heat. Place the tea bag or loose herbs into the hot water. Close the tea pot or cover the sauce pan. Let it steep for five to 10 minutes.
Step 5
Remove the tea bag from the water and pour the tea into a tea cup. If using a strainer, strain the tea into a cup to remove the herbs.
