Memorial Sloane-Kettering Cancer Center reports that advocates of wheatgrass claim it has a wide array of health benefits. Enthusiasts who drink the juice from whole, fresh wheatgrass or take wheatgrass powder or pills often believe that it has preventive and curative powers against viral illness, joint disease and cancer, among other conditions. However, cancer.org explains that although wheatgrass is nutritious, there is no evidence that it can cure or prevent disease Making a smoothie with wheatgrass powder can be a tasty way to include the nutritional benefits of wheatgrass in your diet.

Step 1

Place the frozen berries, banana, water or juice, and yogurt into the blender. While fresh berries can be used, they are not always available. Frozen berries can also substitute for the ice cubes often added to a smoothie to make it cold. Any type of berry can be used; most are very nutritious and full of antioxidants and phytonutrients. Banana is rich in potassium and lends a creamy consistency to the drink. Adding water, juice or milk helps blend everything together. As both juice and milk have calories, water is ideal.

Step 2

Place the lid on the blender jar and blend the contents for about 30 seconds. You may need to blend the mixture a little longer if large, frozen berries are included. Generally, a smooth consistency starts to take shape after thirty seconds. If there are still chunks in the blender, let it run a little bit longer.

Step 3

Stop the blender, remove the blender lid and add one scoop of wheatgrass powder to the contents. If the smoothie appears very thick, as if it would be hard to drink, add a little more water, juice or milk, up to 1/4 cup, to thin it.

Step 4

Replace the blender cap and blend the contents again for about 30 seconds or until the smoothie has reached the desired consistency.

Step 5

Stop the blender and unplug it. Pour the smoothie into a glass---it is now ready to drink. Many people do not care for the taste of wheatgrass. This smoothie has many healthy fruits which will sweeten it. Also, adding juice may add sweetness and flavor. Do not be alarmed by the color of your smoothie; depending on the fruits and juice you added and the color of wheatgrass powder, the final result may look a little green or brown. This is OK.

Tips and Warnings
