A low-carb diet restricts certain foods from your diet to help you improve your health and lose weight. According to Michael R. Eades and Mary Dan Eades, authors of "The 30-Day Low-Carb Diet Solution," reducing the amount of carbohydrates in your diet can help you increase your metabolism, shed pounds and decrease your risk of illness and disease. Reading about how low-carb diets work can give you additional insight to help you get started.

The 30-Day Low-Carb Diet Solution

"The 30-Day Low-Carb Diet Solution," by Michael R. Eades and Mary Dan Eades, begins with a comprehensive overview of the health benefits of switching to a low-carb diet. The authors use research to support their claim that a low-carb diet helps you lose weight and improve your overall health. The book includes a section devoted to telling readers what they can eat on a low-carb diet. The authors include a variety of healthy and low-carb recipes that align with the book's meal plans. The authors finish the book by including information about the carb counts of many different combination foods, recommended vitamins and minerals to take while on a low-carb diet and the protein requirements of the diet.

5 Square Low-Carb Meals

"5 Square Low-Carb Meals," by Monica Lynn, takes an approach to low-carb dieting that claims to make over your eating habits in 20 days. Lynn starts out by describing how a low-carb diet works and what to avoid while on a low-carb diet. The author then describes her 5-square approach to low-carb dieting by describing what to eat and when to eat it. The idea behind the diet is that you eat five small square meals each day, rather than the traditional three. Each meal is made up of one protein source, one starch source and one vegetable source. A food diary and sample menus are included. The remainder of the book is devoted to more than 100 recipes that include flavorful and healthy ingredients without high amounts of carbohydrates. The author closes the book by offering tips for eating out, eating fruit and sugars and adding condiments to a low-carb diet.

Living the Low-Carb Life

"Living the Low-Carb Life," by Jonny Bowden, takes an in-depth look at the science behind low-carb diets and why they can be so successful for some people. The largest portion of the book is dedicated to describing the theory and approach of 14 different low-carb diets, including the advantages and disadvantages of each. The information is presented to help readers choose the best low-carb diet for their lifestyle. The author also includes a chapter about diet drugs and supplements. Bowden includes additional information about low-carb diet myths, answers frequently asked questions about eating on the diet and provides more than 50 tips for making a low-carb diet work for you.
