Unwanted hair is a concern for men and women alike. There are many hair removal products and procedures that are on the market. However, many of these products contain chemicals that can cause bad reactions to the skin. Fortunately, whether you are plagued by unwanted facial hair or unsightly back hair, there are natural ways to remove it. Shaving is by far the most popular method of natural hair removal as it is fast and inexpensive. Other forms of hair removal are becoming more popular such as waxing, threading and buffing.

Step 1

Begin each shave with a clean, sharp razor. Use shaving cream or wet the hair before shaving. According to the FDA, this will help prevent nicks and irritation. When shaving areas of loose skin, pull the skin tight to avoid nicks and cuts. Shaving results last 1 to 3 days.

Step 2

Use tweezers that are clean to pull individual hairs out by the root. Pull skin tight to grasp and remove short, thin hairs. Plucking unwanted hair can be time consuming and painful. Plucking lasts between 3 to 8 weeks.

Step 3

Buy a home waxing kit from your local drug store. Heat the wax and spread it over the area you want to treat. Place the included cloth strips over the wax. Pull the strip off quickly in the opposite direction of hair growth. According to KidsHealth, each treatment will last up to six weeks.

Step 4

Find a professional threading technician. The hair is then removed by a technique in which the technician holds one end of a piece of thread in their mouth. The other end is looped around hair shafts, which are removed one at a time.

Tips and Warnings

  • 1. Shave in the direction of hair growth to avoid ingrown hairs. 2. Use rubbing alcohol to disinfect your tweezers. 3. An epilator is an alternative to tweezers when treating larger areas because it removes several hairs at once.
  • 1. Shaving can cause razor burn, bumps, nicks, and ingrown hair. 2. If hair breaks while plucking, it could result in an ingrown hair. 3. The FDA states that you should not use wax on varicose veins, moles or warts.
