Weight Loss Programs: Nutrisystem Diet Plans

Nutrisystem helps dieters lose weight through low-calorie, portioned-controlled snacks and meals. The company has four different meal plans to choose from based on specific dietary needs, and each one is offered for men and women. All plans come with easy-to-follow 28-day meal plans, a free online membership that includes discussion forums and weight loss tracking tools and free private counseling.

Basic

The Nutrisystem basic plans provide pre-portioned meals for young and middle-aged adults. Foods contain healthy carbohydrates, lean protein to keep you fuller longer and soluble fiber to promote heart health. You can choose from over 150 snacks and entrees to customize your meal plan.

Silver

The silver plans are designed for older men and women. Building on the foods and aspects of the basic plans, the silver plans emphasize lower saturated fats and sodium and higher whole-grain carbohydrates and fiber to decrease cholesterol and the risk for heart disease.

Diabetic

Nutrisystem developed diabetic plans in conjunction with the American Diabetes Association. These plans offer over 130 snacks and meals specifically with low-glycemic indexes to ensure slow absorption and digestion. The meal plan suggests that you eat at least six times per day to reduce the occurrence of excessive blood sugar fluctuations. The diabetic plans have been proven to also lower total cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Vegetarian

Nutrisystem is the only major weight loss program that offers a prepackaged plan specifically for vegetarians, according to the company website. Vegetable burgers and sausage substitute the normal meat products offered in the basic plan. The plan has over 90 dietician-approved vegetarian snacks and entrees for you to choose from.
