Rosacea is a chronic skin condition caused by the swelling of blood vessels directly under the skin's surface. It manifests as distinct redness on the nose, cheeks and forehead---swelling and bumps similar to acne. Rosacea does not have a cure, but proper skin care practices help alleviate symptoms. The National Rosacea Society reports that the key to facial cleansing includes gentle cleansers that maintain skin's neutral pH and do not contain harsh irritants.
Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser
Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser reduces redness while effectively removing dirt, oil and other skin buildup. It is fragrance-free, soap-free, oil-free, noncomedogenic and hypoallergenic. Aveeno has a full line of Ultra-Calming products, including a daily moisturizer with SPF 30, which the National Rosacea Society asserts is also important for reducing rosacea flareups.
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleaner is another recommended cleanser by dermatologists and pediatricians. It doesn't contain fragrances or pore-clogging oil, and it doesn't strip the skin of natural oils---Cetaphil maintains skin's natural pH. It is available in liquid and bar formulations. Cetaphil also offers a daily moisturizer.
Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser
Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser is soap-free, fragrance-free, noncomedogenic and hypoallergenic. It contains the anti-irritants chamomile and vitamin E moisturizers that reduce over-drying.
Eucerin Redness Relief
Eucerin Redness Relief reduces skin redness and helps improve skin condition. Like other cleansers, it does not contain soap. The Eucerin Redness Relief line also includes daily moisturizers with SPF that also help reduce redness---and the line includes a moisturizing night cream.
Murad Acne Complex
The Murad Acne Complex system is known for treating acne---the company asserts that its cleanser also treats acne imitators including rosacea, since its ingredients reduce redness and swelling. Murad Acne Complex should not be used if you have severe rosacea since the salicylic acid it contains can potentially irritate skin.
