Juvenile boys' camps are aimed at redirecting boys who, for any number of reasons, have gotten into trouble in school or with law enforcement. The idea is that by taking these kids out of their normal environment, and away from some of the negative influences on their lives, adults trained to work with troubled boys can provide them with experiences that will teach discipline, cooperation, selflessness and self-esteem.

R.M. Pyles Boys Camp
Located in California's Sequoia National Forest, R.M. Pyles Boys Camp dates back to 1949. It has grown into a multi-year program primarily for disadvantaged and at-risk boys in California. One of the main goals of the program is to provide boys with the confidence and inner strength they need to resist gangs and other negative influences when they return home. Counselors and instructors try to weave life lessons into activities the boys do with horses, camping, arts and crafts, archery and all other activities.

Arivaca Boys Ranch
Arivaca Boys Ranch in Arizona takes teens who have had trouble in school, or with drugs and alcohol or stress and anger problems. The kids are placed in a working ranch environment, where equine therapy is a big part of the program. Equine therapy, which is also used with mentally challenged and physically handicapped people, helps develop confidence, peace, compassion and greater physical coordination. Youths in the Arivaca Boys Ranch program can earn an accredited high school diploma while getting help from licensed therapists. Teamwork is also a big part of the program, and the Ranch's primary mission is to establish "men of integrity."
