Tylenol Extra Strength is an over-the-counter medication for the relief of pain and the reduction in fever. Because it relieves pain, Tylenol Extra Strength is in a class of medications called analgesics. Because it reduces fever, it is also in a class of medications called antipyretics. The active ingredient in Tylenol Extra Strength is acetaminophen. There are 500 mg of acetaminophen in each gelcap, tablet, caplet or tablespoon, depending on the type of Tylenol Extra Strength. Although the active ingredient is the same for each of these types, there are different inactive ingredients.
EZ Tabs
The inactive ingredients of Tylenol Extra Strength in the form of EZ Tabs include corn starch, carnauba wax and cellulose. Coloring is added with the dyes D&C yellow #10, FD&C red #40 and FD&C yellow #6. Other inactive ingredients include sucralose, iron oxide, polyethylene glycol, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide, polyvinyl alcohol, glycolate and sodium starch talc.
Caplet
The inactive ingredients of Tylenol Extra Strength in the form of caplets include sodium starch glycolate, cellulose, corn starch, magnesium stearate, hypromellose and polyethylene glycol. Coloring is added with the dye FD&C Red #40.
Cool Caplet
The inactive ingredients of Tylenol Extra Strength in Cool Caplet form include polyethylene glycol, castor oil, corn starch and cellulose. Coloring is added with the dye FD&C red #40. Flavor is an inactive ingredient as is hypromellose, odium starch glycolate, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide and sucralose.
Rapid Blast Liquid
This liquid form of Extra Strength Tylenol has the inactive ingredients corn syrup, saccharin sodium, citric acid and sodium benzoate. Coloring is added with the dyes D&C Red #33 and FD&C Red #40. Other inactive ingredients include polyethylene glycol, purified water, sorbitol, citric acid, flavor and propylene glycol.
GoTabs
The inactive ingredients of Tylenol Extra Strength in the form of GoTabs include citric acid, sucralose, dextrose, acesulfame potassium and crospovidone. Coloring is added with the dyes FD&C blue #1 and D&C yellow #10. Other inactive ingredients include cellulose acetate, cellulose, magnesium stearate, stearic acid, flavors and povidone.
Rapid Release Gelcap
The inactive ingredients of Tylenol Extra Strength in Rapid Release Gelcap form include magnesium stearate, sodium propionate, titanium dioxide, gelatin, cellulose and benzyl alcohol. Coloring is added with the dyes FD&C Blue #2, D&C Yellow #10, FD&C Red #40 and FD&C Blue #1. Other inactive ingredients include sodium starch glycolate, edetate calcium disodium, castor oil, butylparaben, propylparaben, hypromellose, corn syrup, sodium lauryl sulfate and methylparaben.
