Toddlers need a source of vitamins in their daily diet. Toddlers depend on sources of vitamins to continue to grow in a healthy manner. These vitamins are big influences that affect the toddler's immune system and also affect generally intelligence, the toddler's growth and behavior. Vitamins are not only found in a prescribed multivitamin by the pediatrician, but may be found in foods. Toddlers need fresh fruits and vegetables. They need a source of calcium for their growing bones and a source of proteins to build their body tissues.
Vitamin A
Vitamin A helps to prevent eye problems and helps fight skin disorders. This vitamin is important for bone and teeth formation in toddlers. It can be found naturally in alfalfa, chickweed, lemongrass, borage leaves, burdock root, cayenne, fennel seeds, hops and other herbs.
Vitamin B1 and B2
Vitamin B1, also known as thiamine, helps toddlers' physical and mental development. It can help with digestion, make the nervous system stronger and alleviate stress. Aside from vitamin pills, B1 also may be found in such herbs as catnip, raspberry leaves, hops, fennel seed, rose hips, yellow dock, nettle, parsley and peppermint, among others. Vitamin B2, also known as riboflavin, helps toddlers develop red blood cells, as well as aids in nail, hair and skin growth. It helps generally in the growth of toddlers, too. It also can help prevent cataracts. Sources include ginseng, alfalfa, peppermint, chamomile, parsley and red clover.
Vitamin B3 and B5
Niacin, or vitamin B3, helps toddlers with their circulation. It can prevent headaches and helps digestion. Some sources include chickweed, licorice, nettle, oat straw, slippery elm and fennel seeds. Panothenic acid, or vitamin B5 can help to prevent anemia and fight infections. It makes the immune system stronger and can help wounds to heal. Herb sources include burdock root, yellow dock, nettle and alfalfa.
Vitamin B6 and B12
Vitamin B6, or pyridoxine, helps toddlers absorb proteins and fats. It also can help in the treatment of allergies and asthma. Sources include catnip, alfalfa and oat straw. Cyanocobalamin, or vitamin B12, helps protect the nervous system and may prevent anemia. It comes from hops, alfalfa and bladder wrack.
Vitamin C
Ascorbic acid, or vitamin C, helps toddlers in the formation of iron and calcium. It also helps the immune system. It is an antioxidant that aids in growth and repair of tissues. It even can help prevent cancer. Herb sources include burdock root, skullcap, paprika, horsetail, plantain, kelp and others.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D, usually found in milk, helps toddlers grow strong teeth and bones. It also can control heartbeats and prevent rickets. It can help the thyroid to function properly and also aids blood clotting.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E can help prevent cell damage, promote healthy hair and skin and can help prevent cancer. It can be found in dandelions, flaxseed, raspberry leaf, alfalfa and rose hips, among other herbs.
Vitamin K
Vitamin K is useful in bone repair and formation. It also can make the liver function better. Sources include green tea, shepherds purse, nettle, alfalfa, kelp and other herbs.
