Archery is a sport that individuals of all ages can be a part of. It doesn't matter how strong each person is, because the tension of a bow can be altered to meet the strength of the archer. Wisconsin archery clubs combine the sport of archery with the sport of hunting. Beginning archers can learn the proper archery technique and how to apply archery skills to the hunt.
Lessons
Some Wisconsin archery clubs will provide lessons for beginning archers. Blackhawk Bowhunters (see Resource section) is one of the clubs that will help teach beginning archers the proper technique of archery. Also, with their scheduled hunts, archers are able to apply their new skills. Children are also encouraged to become involved in the sport, and lessons are available for all ages. Since bows can be adjusted based on the strength of the archer, it is possible for anybody to become involved in archery.
Tournaments
Antler Archers and Buck Trail Archers (see Resource section) have annual hunting competitions. These competitions challenge archers to bring down the biggest buck or doe with their bows and arrows. These clubs also hold turkey competitions as well. The hunter with the largest bird wins the competition, gets to have bragging rights and also wins the tournament cash prize.
Hunts
Turkey hunts are an annual event for the members of Antler Archers. There are actually several turkey hunts throughout the turkey season for members to take part in. This helps to ensure that everyone gets a bird. Members must be of legal hunting age and hold a valid turkey bow hunting license prior to the start of the hunt. Pictures are taken of all of the hunters with their birds after the hunt and shared with the other club members.
Events
There are several events that are scheduled throughout the year by Wisconsin archery clubs. Many have target shooting competitions and 3D shoots. A 3D shoot is when a more realistic target is used to make the target shooting more challenging and realistic. Skill competitions may be held for club members only, or the competition may be open to the public so that club members can pit their skills against members of other clubs. There is usually a minimum age limit to participate in these competitions that is set by the archery club hosting the competition.
Membership
There is usually a fee for membership in Wisconsin archery clubs. Some clubs are only for adults, and children are not allowed to join. Other clubs, like Antler Archers, have a family membership rate to make it easier for the whole family to participate in the sport of archery. The membership fees are important to an archery club as the fees cover many of the club's operating costs.
