The gallbladder is a collection sac for bile that lies on the visceral surface of the liver. Bile contains bile acids, which aid in the digestion of fats and fat-soluble vitamins. Gallstones form when substances in the bile, mostly cholesterol, become hard particles in the gallbladder. Folk remedies call for the employment of herbs in order to dissolve gallstones.

Green Tea

Green tea is a tea that is light in color from incomplete fermentation of the leaf before firing. It is usually brewed and drunk as a beverage. Green tea extracts can be a simple gallstone remedy. Green tea stimulates fat digestion in the gallbladder and increases bile evacuation from the gallbladder, thereby preventing gallstones from forming.

Milk Thistle

The utility of milk thistle, a annual or biannual flowering plant, as a liver rejuvenator dates back to Roman times. The seed is the medicinally used part of milk thistle. The standardized extract of milk thistle is known as silymarin, which is sometimes recommended for a range of disorders, including gallstones. It blocks a key step in the body's production of cholesterol in bile, thereby reducing the risk of developing gallstones, according to the University of Michigan Health System.

Globe Artichoke

Globe artichoke, or simply called artichoke, is a perennial thistle that has a long history of use in connection with various digestive tract disorders, such as gallstones. Globe artichoke leaves contain powerful antioxidants, such as caffeylquinic acids, which have demonstrated powerful liver-regenerating effects, notes the University of California, Department of Plant Science. It also stimulates the flow of bile through the biliary ducts.
