Weight Loss Hypnosis Techniques

Many people now use hypnosis to lose weight, as this method allows you to train your mind to eat less. By entering into a different state of consciousness, you can alter your thought patterns to lose weight. Hypnosis can give you the tools you need to lose weight naturally and to keep the weight off once you have lost it.

Suggestibility

Hypnosis makes it possible to lose weight by focusing your attention and making you more responsive to suggestions that you receive. According to the Mayo Clinic, those under hypnosis may become more aware of their weight and could work towards losing excess pounds. For this reason, hypnosis for weight loss works well with behavioral therapy, since hypnosis encourages people to listen to weight loss suggestions.

Reinforcement

When you undergo hypnosis to lose weight, you will likely receive reinforcement at the same time, which will help you focus on keeping weight off long-term. Vanderbilt University reports that positive reinforcement during hypnosis can help you develop long-term habits in regards to the foods that you eat. This means that you will become more aware of what food you should eat and will incorporate the rules that you learn into your diet plan.

Time Frame

Hypnosis takes time to complete, so do not expect to see long-term results after one attempt. According to Vanderbilt University, it takes at least eight weeks to see weight loss results, as your brain must adapt to this new way of thinking. Do not get discouraged if hypnosis does not provide short-term benefits, as it can help you lose weight long-term if you follow a program and visit a hypnotist on a regular basis.

Self-Hypnosis

Those who do not wish to see a hypnotist can learn self-hypnosis techniques. According to Vanderbilt University, studies have shown individuals can lose an average of 20.2 pounds over 8 weeks of treatment from a hypnotist and then 12 weeks of self-hypnosis. Researchers did not control this study, but it does show the possibility of weight loss using self-hypnosis techniques.

Supplementation

Some believe that hypnosis requires the inclusion of other weight loss methods to remain effective. Vanderbilt University suggests that using hypnosis with a number of other weight loss techniques will provide you with the best chance of sustained weight loss. The university did find, however, that some women saw results with unsupplemented hypnosis.
