Medline Plus states that hair loss is usually related to heredity, age and testosterone. Physical or emotional stress can also cause larger amounts of hair to suddenly fall out, along with certain diseases. According to the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, and herb like rosemary may help accelerate hair growth. Eating a balanced, healthy diet along with avoiding wearing your hair up in tight ponytails can also help keep hair growing strong. If you are experiencing rapid hair loss, check with your primary health care provider as this may be an indication of illness.

Almond Oil Blend for the Hair

Step 1

Add 8 to 10 drops of the rosemary essential oil into the bottle of almond oil. Add 4 to 6 drops of the lavender and cedarwood essential oils. Close the almond bottle and lightly roll it back and forth. Lavender and cedarwood help prevent further hair loss, while rosemary will stimulate new growth.

Step 2

Add the blend to the roots of your hair while dry. Massage it down into all of your hair, and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Step 3

Rinse your hair out in the shower with your shampoo and conditioner. Apply this oil combination several times a week for several months to notice results. Store in a cool, dry place.

Supplements to Take

Step 1

Eat a diet that is balanced and full of fruits and vegetables, including foods like avocados and nuts. A few times a week, eat cold water fish, such as salmon or herring. These foods contain omega-3, which helps oxygenate cells and transports vitamins to hair follicles.

Step 2

Find an omega-3 supplement and take that daily as well. Many people's diets are often lacking in omega-3, so adding more will help hair growth.

Step 3

Take a tablespoon of flaxseed oil daily, which also contains omega-3.

Tips and Warnings

  • The Herb Companion suggests to avoid eating foods with saturated fats, which are pro-inflammatory and can cause hair loss. If you can't located almond oil, grapeseed or jojoba oil also works well as a carrier oil. Try making a tea of rosemary and lavender too, or taking the herbs in tincture formula for a less time consuming alternative. Avoid blow drying your hair too much and handle it gently.
  • Essential oils are highly concentrated plant material and need to be added to a carrier oil. They are too potent to be added to the skin otherwise. Please call your doctor if you are experiencing abnormal bald spots or if you scalp is itchy or irritated along with hair loss.
