Marriage License Requirements for Lawrence County, Mississippi

Not too long ago you were required to have a physical exam, including blood tests, before you could apply for a marriage license. Today, in many states, you no longer need a blood test to apply for a marriage license. This rule does not apply if you are applying for marriage in Lawrence County, Mississippi. The state of Mississippi requires all marriage license applicants to be tested for sexually transmitted disease prior to being married. Blood tests promote good health and knowledgeable and safe marital sex.

Blood Tests

Mississippi marriage license requirements state that you must have your blood tested prior to applying for your marriage license. To get your blood tested, contact the Lawrence County Health Department or your personal physician. You must both be tested no more than 30 days before applying for your marriage license.

Applications

Apply for your marriage license at the Lawrence County Clerk of Circuit Court. You must both be in attendance to apply for your marriage license, and it is not limited to use in Lawrence County. Your marriage license may be used anywhere in the state of Mississippi.

Waiting Period

You must wait three days before the Lawrence County Clerk of Court will issue your marriage license to you. If you cannot wait the three days you may obtain written permission from a Lawrence County judge to waive the three-day waiting period.

Age

Mississippi requires both you and your fiancé to be of age to marry, which is at least 18. If you are younger than 18, you must obtain parental permission to wed. Without parental permission, you will be denied the marriage license for which you are applying.

Identification

You must both present the Clerk of Court with sufficient proof of age and identity in the form of either a driver's license or birth certificate. If you don't have a driver's license, a state-issued identification card, military ID or government identification card are all acceptable forms of identification.
