Overview

Finding an unknown pill can be disconcerting as you try to identify what medication is contained in the pill and what the pill could be used for. One of the easiest ways to identify a pill is by comparing its shape, color and imprints to an online pill database. In the case of pills with the imprint "RX655," they contain amoxicillin, which is an antibiotic that is effective against a range of bacterial infections.

Step 1

Check the size and shape. The drugs.com pill identifier indicates that the pill should be oblong and two-toned, with half being red and half being yellow.

Step 2

Type the imprint into a pill identifier. There are a variety of online pill identifiers that can identify pills based on their imprints. In the case of pills with RX655 imprinted on them, they represent amoxicillin pills. Entering RX655 as the imprint into the drugs.com pill identifier will pull up an image of an amoxicillin pill manufactured by Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals. Compare the online image with the pill you have.

Step 3

Take the pill to a pharmacist and ask if the pharmacy has any amoxicillin medications that look like this pill. This will be most useful if the pill does not match any found in the online databases.
