Lake Buena Vista, Florida is located just north of the theme parks of Walt Disney World and the city consists mostly of large hotels and chain restaurants. This area is popular with visitors due to its location next to Disney World and the competitive prices offered there on accommodations and meals. Camping is also available in Lake Buena Vista, offering you an inexpensive lodging option for visiting Walt Disney World as well as opportunities for some healthy recreation.
Campground
The 750-acre Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort Campground is the only campground located in Lake Buena Vista. It is situated among the natural beauty of a lush pine and cypress forest. Choose from 90 partial hookup sites for tents and small RVs or 788 full-hookup campsites. Privacy landscaping, a picnic table and a charcoal grill are included at each campsite. Several climate controlled restroom "comfort stations" with showers are available in the campground. Pets are allowed for a nightly fee.
Campground Amenities
The Fort Wilderness Resort Campground offers you free cable TV, high-speed Internet access for a fee, laundry facilities, video rentals, a dog park and child care services. A grocery store selling camping supplies and sundries is also available. Wander over to the Trail's End Restaurant and Crockett's Tavern if you're tired of eating campsite cooked food. Visit the Tri-Circle-D Ranch for a horseback, carriage or wagon ride. Rent a Segway, electric cart or bicycle to roam around the campground at your own pace. Or rent a pontoon boat or jet-ski at the Bay Lake Marina for a day of fun on the lake.
Campground Activities
Start your day by lap-swimming in one of the two campground pools or play on the water slide before a relaxing soak in the hot tub. Gather your family or friends for a game of basketball, tetherball or volleyball. Try your hand at archery or play tennis any time of the day on lighted courts. Catch-and-release fishing is available in the campground lake or canals. Take your kids to play on their choice of four playgrounds or spend a day on the beach at Bay Lake.
Trails
If you're looking for more exercise challenges than walking through the Disney theme parks, there are several scenic running trails for you to explore while you're camping in Lake Buena Vista. Pick up a trail map at the campground office or at any Disney resort. Try the two-mile running course in the Fort Wilderness Campground that traverses through the forest and offers you numerous exercise stations along the trail. For a change of pace, try the three-mile trail at Turkey Lake Park, located a short drive from your Disney campsite.
Nearby Campgrounds
Two campgrounds are located in close proximity to Lake Buena Vista. The Tropical Palms Resort, five miles away in Kissimmee, features 400 shady tent and RV campsites with full hookups and picnic tables. Laundry facilities, a general store, swimming pools, bike paths, basketball and sand volleyball courts are located on-site. If you prefer a smaller campground, choose one of the 100 campsites with full hookups available at the Kissimmee KOA. Restrooms with shower facilities are available in the campground along with a laundry room, RV dump station, pet walk and campground store. Stay active by swimming laps in the campground pool or playing basketball on the outdoor court.
