The most common cause of poor circulation in your legs is venous thrombosis, better known as a blood clot. Though not the only cause, it is responsible for a majority of circulation problems in your legs. This condition is considered acute, meaning it comes on suddenly and has a tendency to affect those who are overweight or over the age of 40. It is a serious condition, though, and one that requires quick medical attention. Knowing and recognizing the signs of this condition allows you to seek the attention you need.

Leg Pain

According to the podiatry specialists at Foot Smart, blood clots can develop when blood circulation in the legs is extremely poor. These blood clots, also known as deep vein thrombosis, can result in severe leg pain. This will typically occur when blood flow slows down considerably or stops completely.

Cold Feet

This is a sign that blood flow or circulation from your heart has slowed down considerably. If it only occurs intermittently, it may be nothing to worry about. However if it is a persistent problem, it can be indicative of poor circulation. You will be more prone to noticing it when you are trying to rest or are immobile.

Cramping

In the beginning of this condition, you may find that your legs, buttocks and feet cramp while you are active. These areas of your body may also become easily tired and weak. Once you rest, the symptoms have a tendency to disappear; however, when you become active again, the same problems will occur.

Discoloration

Your legs may begin to turn a bluish color and feel warm to the touch. This is a common result of a blood clot in your leg. You may also experience fluid retention, also known as edema, which causes your legs and feet to swell. If you experience any of these, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible so the blood clot may be dissolved.
