Dunkin' Donuts, which opened its first shop in 1950, is the largest coffee and baked goods chain in the world, according to the company's website. Besides 52 types of donuts and a variety of coffee beverages, Dunkin' Donuts also sells bagels, breakfast sandwiches, muffins, cookies, and even lunch sandwiches. However, before you eat at a Dunkin' Donuts, learn more about the nutritional value of the product because the amount of calories and fat range significantly across menu items.

The Donuts

With 550 calories and 350 calories from fat, the Chocolate Coconut Cake donut is one of the highest-calorie donuts on the Dunkin' Donuts menu. However, most of the donuts fall within the 250 to 350 calorie range, with calories from fat averaging approximately 170 per donut. The donut with one of the lowest calorie counts is the Sugar Raised donut with 230 calories and 130 calories from fat.

Bagels with Cream Cheese

The bagels range from 320 to 390 calories each. However, some significant differences exist in the calories from fat content. For example, the Multigrain bagel has 70 calories from fat, while the Plain, Blueberry, Garlic and Salt bagels each contain only 25 calories from fat. If you put cream cheese on your bagel, you will increase your caloric intake between 100 to 150 calories. So, at the high end, if you eat a bagel and cream cheese, you could consume up to 540 calories.

Considerations with Coffee

If you order coffee with your meal, the additional calories will depend on what you add to your drink. For example, a plain small coffee only has 5 calories. Add skim milk and Splenda and your drink now has an additional 20 calories. Compare that to the 120 calories you will consume if you add cream and sugar instead. Coolata drinks range from 250 to 860 calories, depending on the size and the flavor and Latte drinks range from 80 to 450 calories.

Breakfast Sandwiches

Breakfast sandwiches have become popular items on the Dunkin' Donuts menu. While there are low-calorie options, such as the Egg White and Cheese on an English muffin at 250 calories, some of these sandwiches have 500 calories ore more. The breakfast sandwiches with highest calorie counts include several of the Sausage, Egg and Cheese sandwiches. If you want a lower calorie option with these ingredients, try substituting the eggs for egg white.

DDSMART

In July 2008, Dunkin' Donuts launched its DDSMART menu to provide "better for you" menu options. According to the company Web site, products are DDSMART if they are reduced in calories, fat, saturated fat, sugar or sodium by at least 25 percent compared to a base product. Products may also be DDSMART if they contain ingredients that are "nutritionally beneficial," although a listing of these ingredients is not available.
