Fitness boot camps combine cardio exercise with interval training and strength training. Although sometimes weights are used, often fitness camp exercises uses weight bearing exercises for strength training. There are fitness boot camps across the state of Virginia, managed by gyms or by personal trainers.
Northern Virginia
NOVA Womens Boot Camp takes place during a four-week period three mornings per week. Sessions are usually held at the Regency Sport & Health Club in McLean, Va. Trainers, however, like to mix it up by visiting a nearby park, school or parking lot. NOVA Women's Boot Camp also offers a three-week co-ed evening boot camp. Boot camp participants can expect mat work, running and weight training.
Achieve Fitness offers a women's only fitness boot camp in Vienna, Fairfax and Alexandria, Va. The morning boot camp registrants are advised to come early to stretch. In addition to the customary push ups, sit-ups and jumping jacks, they can also expect to use resistance bands and body bars.
Tidewater Area
Living on the beach is extra incentive to get the body in tip-top shape. The Virginia Beach Adventure Camp for Women offers a four-week fitness program designed to keep the heart rate up and build muscle. Fitness buffs can sign up for one of two morning boot camps, or three evening camps. A co-ed camp is available on Mondays and Wednesdays.
The Williamsburg Indoor Sports Camp offers an adult boot camp every four weeks twice a week. Registrants can choose from one of two morning sessions, or an evening session. You don't have to be a member of the sports camp to participate in the boot camp.
Richmond Area
KYA boot camp is offered twice per morning. Trainers request that you bring water, a mat and dumbbells to these high-energy sessions.
If the idea of running around outside is not your idea of fun, don't fret. You can find boot camp-style group exercise classes offered indoors. There are 14 locations of the YMCA in the Greater Richmond Area, and several of them offer boot camp-style group exercise classes. Be sure to contact your local YMCA to verify the class schedule and costs. In addition, several American Family Fitness locations offer boot camp-style group exercise classes.
Charlottesville
Essentials Fitness offers a boot camp session Monday through Friday at various locations in the area. They welcome all fitness levels for an hour of cardio, strength training and stretching. You can also do a drop-in session or purchase a multi-session pass.
Danville/South Boston Area
With a $39 unlimited fitness pass, you can take the boot camp class at South Boston Fitness offered in the evening. South Boston Fitness Center offers small group personal training. Trainers seek to share their passion for fitness through personal training and boot camps.
