Camping in Spring Hill, Tennessee

Spring Hill is a small town located south of Nashville in Tennessee. If you are a fit and active traveler, consider pitching your tent or parking your RV for a night or two near Spring Hill. Despite its location along the heavily developed Interstate 65 corridor, nearby Henry Horton State Park offers outdoor opportunities for people interested in healthy lifestyles.

Time Frame

Summers in Spring Hill tend to be warm, according to Idcide.com. The hottest month of the year is July, when temperature sometimes climb above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The area also receives a good amount of rainfall. According to Idcide.com, autumn is the driest time of the year, and it is the time when temperatures are still pleasant.

Camping

Camping is available in nearby Henry Horton State Park. Set along the Duck River, the park offers 75 campsites, 19 of which are for tent campers only, with the rest accommodating travelers with RVs. There is group campsite available to accommodate large parties. However, this site is reserved for tent campers only.

Amenities

The RV sites offer both water and electrical hookups for campers. Each site is also equipped with a picnic table, fire ring and grill. There are two bathhouses available for guest use, but they are closed from December to March for the winter. All campsites at Henry Horton State Park are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hiking

Once you pitch your tent, it is time to set off and enjoy the scenery. There are three easy hikes to choose from in Henry Horton State Park. The closest to the campground is the The Hickory Ridge Loop, which takes you through forests filled with oak and hickory trees. The Wilhoite Mill Trail takes you along the Duck River, and The Turkey Trail mixes it up with both forests and meadows.

Fishing

The Duck River provides fishing opportunities if you are an angler. Among the fish available in the river are largemouth and smallmouth bass, catfish and redeye. If you are 13 years old or older, you will need to obtain a Tennessee fishing license before casting your line. You can purchase one at a local bait shop, grocery store or hardware shop.
