Getting There
Texas is huge and Brownsville's location at its southern tip makes driving there from another state a long road-trip adventure. The closest interstate highway stops 164 miles north in Corpus Christi. Three state highways reach Brownsville. American and Continental Airlines fly into Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport, mostly via shuttle flights from larger Texas cities.

Activities
Brownsville's coastal location offers you year-round opportunities for beach activities like fishing, swimming, kayaking and sailing. Interior creeks and lakes also provide freshwater fishing. Resaca de la Palma State Park in Brownsville is a large birding center with over 500 documented species. It is part of the Lower Rio Grande Valley's World Birding Center network. There are over eight miles of trails for hiking, biking or walking. You can also take part in guided hiking and bird-watching tours.
